Chapter 2 - Caught on Camera

At the hospital, doctors worked quickly. Ultrasounds. Blood tests. Hours of monitoring. Emily waited in terrified silence until the obstetrician finally entered with a gentle smile.

“Your little girl is doing well.”

Emily covered her face as tears came harder than before.

“We were lucky,” the doctor continued. “Another inch lower, and today’s outcome could have been very different.”

Those words stayed with her forever. Lucky. Not because of fate, but because one stranger had refused to look away.

Meanwhile… David sat inside an interrogation room believing expensive lawyers would erase another mistake. He had done it before. Threaten. Deny. Settle. Move on.

Except this time… Detective Sarah Mitchell wasn’t interested in his reputation. She was interested in evidence.

She placed a tablet on the table. “Watch.”

The grocery store’s security footage began playing from every angle. David could see himself glaring at Emily. He could see himself grabbing the shopping cart. He could see himself driving her into the metal counter. He could hear customers gasp before Wyatt stepped between them.

David’s face turned pale. “It doesn’t show everything.”

Sarah pressed another button. “It doesn’t have to.”

A customer’s cellphone video appeared, crystal clear. David’s own words echoed through the room: “We’re not wasting my money on useless baby junk!” Then… “You greedy bitch.”

Silence filled the room.

Sarah folded her hands. “You know what makes this different?” David said nothing. She leaned forward. “Three witnesses told us they’ve seen you verbally abuse your wife in this same store before.”

His breathing changed.

“The cashier recognized you because your wife once came back the next day wearing sunglasses… indoors.”
