Chapter 1 – The Empire Awakens

Chapter 1 – The Empire Awakens
The black Rolls-Royce cut silently through Manhattan's midnight streets.
Inside, Isabella Montrose sat motionless, her swollen cheek reflected in the tinted window.
Only now, away from Damian Cross, did she allow herself to touch the faint outline of his handprint.

Her fingers lingered for only a second.
Then she lowered her hand.
That woman no longer existed.
The car entered the underground entrance of Montrose Global Headquarters, a ninety-story glass tower that dominated the financial district.
Security guards snapped to attention the instant the vehicle stopped.
"Welcome home, Ms. Montrose."
The executive elevator opened before she reached it.
At the top floor, every member of the legal department, the executive board, and the family's private financial advisors stood waiting.
No one spoke.
Then an older gentleman stepped forward.
Richard Montrose.
Founder of Montrose Global.
One of the wealthiest men in America.
He looked at the bruise on his daughter's face.
His expression never changed.
But everyone in the room felt the temperature drop.
"Who did this?"
Isabella met his eyes.
"Damian."
A long silence followed.
Richard slowly removed his glasses.
"For four years..."
"I respected your decision to hide your identity."
"I watched you build his company with your own hands."
"I stayed silent because you believed he loved you."
He placed the glasses on the conference table.
"No one touches my daughter twice."
The room remained perfectly still.
Richard nodded once.
"Proceed."
Instantly, dozens of screens illuminated.
Every subsidiary connected to Cross Holdings appeared.
Bank accounts.
Credit facilities.
Investment portfolios.
Private equity funds.
Luxury real estate.
Every asset.
General Counsel Margaret Hayes adjusted her glasses.
"All voting shares are held through Montrose Capital."
"Cross Holdings never knew the beneficial owner."
"The transfer authority has already been activated."
Richard looked toward Isabella.
"One word."
She answered without hesitation.
"Everything."
Margaret nodded.
"Effective immediately."
"Freeze every corporate account."
"Cancel all revolving credit."
"Recall outstanding loans."
"Terminate executive authority."
"Replace the board before opening bell."
One after another—
Executives acknowledged the orders.
Within minutes, thousands of automated notices spread across international banking systems.
Across New York...
London...
Singapore...
Zurich...
Every institution connected to Cross Holdings received the same message.
Funding suspended.
Authorization revoked.
Ownership review initiated.
Meanwhile...
Back inside the Cross mansion...
Champagne continued flowing.
Damian laughed louder than anyone else.
Vanessa leaned against him proudly.
"You finally got rid of her."
Evelyn raised her glass.
"Our family has never been stronger."
At that exact moment...
Damian's phone vibrated.
He ignored it.
Then another.
And another.
Within thirty seconds—
More than fifty notifications flooded the screen.
His smile faded.
The first email read:
URGENT: ALL CORPORATE ACCOUNTS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED.
The second:
BOARD MEETING CALLED WITHOUT CEO AUTHORIZATION.
The third:
MONTROSE CAPITAL HAS ASSUMED EMERGENCY CONTROL.
Damian frowned.
"What the hell is Montrose Capital?"
No one answered.

Because no one knew.
Not yet.
