Chapter 7

Chapter 7: The Uninvited Guest

Two weeks before my due date, I received an unexpected email. It wasn't from a lawyer, an accountant, or a private investigator. It was from a private encrypted address.
Laura, I’ve been watching the Blackwell empire crumble from afar, and I must say, you handled Diego with exquisite precision. But you’re only holding half the puzzle pieces. Meet me at the restaurant inside the Four Seasons tomorrow at noon. Come alone, or the truth about your daughter's medical file stays buried. - J.B.
Julian Blackwell.
Against my lawyer's frantic advice, I showed up. The restaurant was quiet, filled with the low hum of business lunches. Sitting at a corner table was Julian. He inherited the sharp, striking features of the Blackwell family, but unlike Diego’s frantic, desperate energy, Julian exuded an aura of calm, dangerous competence.
"You look beautiful, Laura," he said, rising to pull out my chair. "Pregnancy suits you."
"Cut the pleasantries, Julian," I said, refusing to sit. "Why were you paying Paola fifty thousand dollars a month?"
Julian smiled, taking a sip of his black coffee. "Sit down, Laura. It's a long story, and it involves the medical chart Dr. Salinas looked at during your ultrasound."
I slowly sat down, my heart hammering against my ribs.
"Three years ago, Diego went in for his first vasectomy," Julian explained, leaning forward. "My mother financed it because she didn't want Diego having children with you. She always despised your background. But Paola was the one who managed the medical account. Do you know why?"
"Because she was having an affair with him," I stated.
"No," Julian whispered, a dark glint in his eyes. "Because Paola was working for me. I paid her to keep Diego distracted, to fuel his ego, and to make sure he never produced an heir that could challenge my share of the Blackwell estate. The vasectomy three years ago? It was a fake, Laura. Paola bribed the surgeon. Diego was never sterile. The procedure he got two months ago was his first actual surgery."
My jaw dropped. The room seemed to spin. "Diego wasn't sterile... for the last three years?"
"Exactly," Julian smiled. "But here is the twist that even I didn't see coming. Paola didn't just take my money. She got greedy. She wanted Diego's corporate shares too. So she helped him plan the fraud against you."

Julian slid a manila envelope across the table.
"Open it," he murmured. "It's the complete, unredacted medical history of Paola’s own private clinic visits from last month."
