CHAPTER 49 — The Last Target

The following afternoon, Elena breached the upper deck of the office, her fingers flying across a mobile terminal as she approached Valeria’s desk.
"Valeria, we have a catastrophic data anomaly! A ghost sub-account deep within the Iron Ledger was just remotely activated from an unlisted server array in the Swiss Alps. It’s executing an automated, hostile corporate buyout of... the Phoenix Alliance building itself!"
Valeria stood up, her eyes narrowing. "Who is the registered entity authorizing the purchase order?"
"A shell company called Nemesis LLC," Elena whispered, tapping a key to bring up the biometrics log. "But look at the authorization signature, Valeria. The biometric hash used to override our firewalls... it’s a 99.9% match to your own genetic code."
Her mother. The only person on Earth whose DNA could trick the Salgado family’s proprietary biometric security protocols. She was coming back to reclaim the empire—or to eliminate the daughter she had artificially engineered to hold it.
Simultaneously, the wall-mounted television screen in the war room flashed with an international news alert:

Authorities are currently searching for an unidentified middle-aged woman seen leaving the premises moments before the discovery..."
The board was clearing. The creators of the prison were being systematically hunted down.
