Fox News legal analyst and Georgetown University Law School professor Jonathan Turley offered up praise for now-former Attorney General Pam Bondi’s temporary replacement as head of the Justice Department while also offering a warning to Democrats who may be celebrating her demise.
“I think that the president obviously is trying to prepare for what he sees as coming. And there’s a lot of unknowns there. I would say that when Chuck Schumer celebrates this, he should think again,” Turley said Thursday on the network after it was announced that Bondi would be replaced.
“Pam Bondi is still in good favor with not just the president, but most people in that party. She’s now a torpedo in the water. There’s a lot of places she could go, including running for office. So I wouldn’t celebrate too much if I were the minority leader in that sense,” he said.
“In terms of who’s being considered, there’s various options. You have Jeanine Pirro, who is U.S. Attorney in D.C., very accomplished lawyer, very accomplished judge. Obviously, Lee Zeldin is very popular on the Hill. He would be someone who could really sort of grease the skids when you need things to move on the Hill in the area of the Justice Department. You have Todd Blanche himself who was a partner in a world-class law firm, he was a prosecutor in what’s considered the top prosecution office, and he’s tough as nails,” Turley continued.
“In terms of confirmations, I think that Schumer’s hair would catch on fire if it was Todd Blanche because of his-, he was at the center of the Epstein files issue, but he’s also been at the president’s side throughout these battles,” the legal scholar added. “I think Zeldin would probably have the easiest of those, and possibly Pirro and others.
He concluded: “But I think the president is primarily looking at, as he has his whole career, if I make a personnel change, can I sort of spur this along? And each of these people have a skillset. Todd Blanche is a tough guy. He’ll gut you like a trout without even changing his expression. He’s a litigator. I mean, he’s been in the tough fights, and you can count on that. Zeldin is someone who’s able to avoid fights, but he’s also able to finish them. And Pirro and others have a track record with the president that is proven. She’s been an outstanding U.S. Attorney.”

According to a report from Fox News’ Katelyn Caralle and Emma Colton, “Bondi met with Trump in the Oval Office on Wednesday night ahead of his speech to the nation on the war in Iran, where he was reportedly informed of her ouster, according to two sources familiar with the meeting. One of those sources said that by the time Trump took his place behind the podium for the address, Bondi had already lost her job and was on her way back to Florida.”
Their story follows a number of others about Bondi’s impending ouster. Earlier on Thursday morning, Semafor’s Shelby Talcott had tweeted that “the president has informed Pam Bondi that her time as AG is nearing an end” and “all the normal caveats that he could change his mind apply.”
