Chapter 4 - The Demolition of the Vale Syndicate

The coordinated takedown of the Vale enterprise at 6:00 a.m. was a masterpiece of legal and tactical warfare.
Armed with the unsealed medical fraud warrants and the forensic paper trail Martin Vance had established overnight, federal marshals and state investigators raided the corporate headquarters of Vale Logistics in New Jersey. Simultaneously, Gabriel’s port security teams seized the four container vessels Julian Vale had attempted to re-flag under offshore jurisdictions.
By 8:30 a.m., Julian Vale sat across from Gabriel in the high-security interrogation room beneath the Manhattan docks.
The older man was disheveled, his expensive bespoke coat stained with harbor grease, his wrists encircled by heavy steel handcuffs.
"You can't touch me, Cross!" Julian spat, slamming his cuffs against the metal table. "The Swiss contracts are legally binding under international maritime law! That collateral is already registered in Zurich! If you void those deeds, the syndicate will wipe you off the Atlantic!"
Gabriel sat across from him, sipping an espresso from a porcelain cup, his face an unreadable mask of stone.
"The deeds are void, Julian," Gabriel said calmly.
"Under what authority?" Julian sneered. "I held your power of attorney!"
"You held a power of attorney that expired the moment my marriage dissolved five years ago," Gabriel replied, sliding a certified decree from the New York Supreme Court across the table. "Under the original Cross-Sterling trust covenant, any transfer of maritime collateral exceeding ten million dollars requires the explicit, written authorization of the primary matriarch—or her surviving male heirs."
Julian’s sneer froze.

"Claire signed the revocation at 4:00 a.m.," Gabriel continued, his voice dropping into a lethal, quiet register. "And my three sons—the boys your daughter tried to bury under a forged death certificate—are the sole legal beneficiaries of the entire fleet. Your contracts are worthless paper. Your shell companies have been seized for federal wire fraud. And your daughter has already signed a material witness confession."
Julian slumped back against the metal chair, his eyes wide and hollow as the realization washed over him: in trying to bury Gabriel's heirs, he had handed the very weapon of his own destruction directly to the boys he had tried to erase.
