Chapter 6

Chapter 6: The Traitor’s Trap
By the second week of their seclusion, Ethan was thriving, his cheeks turning a healthy, rosy pink. Chloe was finally able to walk without pain, her body healing through sheer force of maternal will. But the peace of the mountain fortress was shattered on a Tuesday morning when Alexander's security monitors suddenly flashed red.
"We have a breach," Marcus, the head of tactical security, announced through the compound’s intercom system. "A convoy of four unmarked black SUVs has bypassed the primary gate. They used an encrypted security override code."
Alexander snapped up from the dining table, his hand instantly moving to the concealed pistol beneath his jacket. "An override code? That’s impossible. Only my inner circle has those keys."
"It was Julian," Chloe whispered, standing at the top of the glass staircase, holding Ethan tightly to her chest. She had looked out the window and recognized the sleek, customized Rolls-Royce SUV leading the convoy. Julian had always been obsessed with security systems; he had obviously bought off one of Alexander's former software contractors.
"Get to the panic room, Chloe. Now!" Alexander ordered, his voice echoing with absolute authority.
But before Chloe could move, the massive glass windows of the living room shattered inward. Flashbang grenades erupted in blinding white light and deafening booms. Armed mercenaries in black tactical gear poured through the broken frames, their weapons discharging with sharp, rhythmic snaps.
Alexander fired back, his shots dropping the first two mercenaries instantly, but the sheer volume of the assault was overwhelming.

From behind the wall of smoke, Julian Sterling stepped into the room. He wore a designer cashmere coat, his handsome face twisted into a smirk of pure, arrogant triumph. He didn't look like a father or a husband; he looked like a vulture reclaiming his prey.
"Did you really think you could hide from me, Chloe?" Julian called out, stepping over the glass shards as his men pinned Alexander to the floor, three rifles pressed to the back of the older billionaire's head. "You took my son. You took my inheritance. Did you really think this old ghost could protect you?"
