Alexander wasn’t just wealthy.
He was connected.

Javier.
He didn’t sound panicked.
He sounded annoyed.
“Look, Sofia overreacted,” he said. “My mom just wanted to talk. Things got emotional.”
I felt sick listening to him.
Alexander didn’t.
He put the call on speaker and let Javier keep talking.
“She’s part of our family now. There are expectations—”
Alexander cut him off.
“No,” he said quietly. “There were expectations.”
Silence.
Then Javier laughed, like he didn’t understand the shift.

“You had one job last night,” Alexander continued. “Protect your wife.”
Another pause.
“You failed.”

The line went dead.
And just like that—the first crack formed.
