Chapter 15: The Unbreakable Horizon

Ten Years Later.

The aroma of roasting coffee beans and warm pan dulce filled the bright, spacious kitchen of our home. It wasn't a mansion in San Pedro, but it had a solid roof that didn't leak, large windows that let the sunlight pour in, and a garden filled with vibrant marigolds.

I stood at the stove, humming a quiet tune, when the front door swung open.

"Papa! I got it!"

Sofia rushed into the kitchen, her dark hair flying behind her. She was eighteen now, brilliant, fierce, and full of life. She held a thick envelope in her hand, waving it frantically.

"The university in the capital," she said, breathlessly. "Full scholarship for their pre-law program."

I dropped the spatula and wrapped my arms around her, lifting her off the ground just like I used to when she was small. My heart swelled with an indescribable, overwhelming pride.

"I am so proud of you, Sofia," I whispered into her hair. "Your mother would be so incredibly proud."

"I'm going to fight for the people who can't fight for themselves, Papa," she said, her eyes shining with a fierce determination that mirrored Elena's. "No one gets to be invisible anymore."

Later that evening, I sat on our porch with a cup of coffee, watching the sun dip below the jagged peaks of the mountains surrounding Monterrey. The sky was a canvas of brilliant oranges, purples, and deep blues.

The nightmare of the De la Vega family was a distant memory, a dark chapter that had tested my soul but failed to destroy it. I had walked through the fires of hell, wearing a driver's uniform, carrying the weight of a shattered heart. But I had made it out.

I took a deep breath. The air was cool, clean, and completely free.

The war was over. And we had won the greatest victory of all: a beautiful, unbreakable life.
