Chapter 2 - The FootageThe security command center in the basement of the north tower was suffocatingly quiet. The room smelled of static electricity, heavy server cooling units, and stale coffee. A wall of sixty-four high-definition monitors blinked in unison, casting a pale, clinical blue glow over the faces of the men standing inside.

Marcus stood beside the director, his boots planted wide, his fists clenched so tightly inside his pockets that his knuckles turned white, the skin stretching until it threatened to split. He didn't blink. He couldn't afford to.

The chief of security tapped a mechanical keyboard. The central sixty-inch screen flickered, shifting from a live feed of the parking garage to the archival recording of the Grand Ballroom from exactly forty-two minutes ago.

Then it began.

Every second played out in brutal, uncompressed 4K resolution.

Every word was picked up by the directional ceiling microphones.

Every calculated move Isabella made was laid bare.

On the screen, the charity gala was in full swing. Marcus saw himself, laughing at a joke made by an investor, his back turned to his wife. Then the camera tracked Khloe entering from the terrace, her hand on her pregnant stomach, looking for him. Isabella intercepted her near the mahogany banquet table.

The audio was pristine. Marcus heard Isabella’s low, venomous whisper: “He’s only with you for the optics, Khloe. The moment that brat is born, you’re back to being an ornament.”

Isabella’s lies unraveled frame by frame. The footage showed Khloe trying to step away, her expression dignified but pained. Then came the truth—Isabella’s smug smile, her deliberate, heavy shove that sent Khloe flying sideways into the sharp edge of the mahogany table, and the final, brutal kick to Khloe’s lower abdomen while she was already on her knees, hidden from the crowd's direct line of sight by the heavy velvet tablecloth.

No one spoke when the clip ended. The silence in the security room was heavy, industrial, and absolute.

Marcus’s voice came out low, rattling from the deep center of his chest. “Play it again.”

The security chief looked at the director, who gave a slow, grim nod.

They played it again. The impact of Khloe's body against the wood seemed louder this time. The sound of crystal champagne glasses exploding onto the white tablecloth echoed through the small room like gunfire.

And again.

Each replay stripped away another layer of denial that Marcus had built over the years to justify his choices. He had chosen the glamorous, influential Rossi family alliance over the quiet loyalty of his wife. He had believed Isabella’s subtle, venomous hints that Khloe was fragile, dramatic, and seeking attention.

Finally, Marcus turned away from the monitor. His eyes were no longer confused, nor were they filled with the frantic panic of the ballroom.

They were cold. A dark, predatory stillness had settled into his features.

“Call the police,” Marcus said to the security chief. "Give them the raw files. Secure the original drives."

Behind them, near the holding bench where she had been forced to sit, Isabella’s voice trembled for real this time. The elegant socialite, the daughter of the city's real estate dynasty, looked up at him through strands of messy, unkempt hair.

“Marcus… you can’t do this to me,” she whispered, her fingers clawing at the fabric of her skirt. “Our families have contracts. The shipping port merger—my father will pull the funding by morning if a single squad car shows up here.”

Marcus walked over to her, stopping inches from where she sat. He didn't lean down. He looked down at her as if she were dirt on his shoe.

“Let him pull it,” Marcus said, his voice entirely devoid of rhythm or warmth. “I will burn the entire company to the ground myself before I let you walk out of this building a free woman.”
