Chapter 4 - The Demolition of the Inner Circle

The collapse of Dominic Hayes’s faction was swift, clinical, and completely contained within the walls of the executive tower.
When the other capos saw the federal wire transfer logs proving Dominic had planned to turn state's evidence against the entire council once he secured the bonds, their loyalty evaporated in seconds. The oldest capo, Enzo Moretti, stood up and spat on the carpet in front of Dominic’s polished shoes.
"Traitor," Enzo growled.
"Bennett, please!" Dominic cried out, his hands trembling violently as my tactical guards forced him down onto his knees on the marble floor. "Your father promised me those docks! I built this empire with him! You owe me my share!"
"My father built an empire on blood and lies, Dominic," I said, walking down the length of the table until I stood directly over him. "And you spent twenty years helping him bury the bodies. The difference between you and me is that I know when a debt must be paid."
I didn't order him executed in the room. I wasn't going to let his blood stain the floor my mother’s family had built.
"Strip him of his assets, revoke his family's security clearances, and hand the complete Zurich transaction files directly to the Federal District Attorney's office," I commanded the lead guard. "Let the government dismantle whatever remains of his name."
As they dragged Dominic out of the boardroom, his hysterical screams fading down the private elevator shaft, I turned to the remaining directors at the table.
"Effective immediately," I announced, placing my hand on Clara’s shoulder, "fifty percent of Hale Maritime Group's commercial shares and all controlling revenue from the North Docks are being transferred into an irrevocable trust held under the name of Clara Vance."
The capos stared at the girl, stunned into silence.
"We are closing the ledger of 1986," I said, my voice echoing off the glass. "Anyone who has an objection can leave their badges on this table right now."

Not a single man moved. One by one, the capos bowed their heads in silent, total submission.
The bloodline had finally been balanced.
