Chapter 1

CHAPTER 1 The Woman They Tried to Throw Out

The slap echoed across the wedding hall, silencing the string quartet and freezing every guest at their table. Margaret Lawson, the groom's elegant mother, stood with cold authority after striking the older woman seated at the head table.
"Stand up," she said sharply. "You don't belong here."
The woman she had slapped wore a simple navy-blue dress, carried no jewelry, and looked completely out of place among the wealthy guests. Yet she remained calm, resting her hands quietly in her lap.
At the center of the table, the bride, Emily, struggled to hold back tears.
"That's my mom," she whispered. "Please... don't do this."
Margaret laughed with open contempt.
"Your real parents must be rolling in their graves. A country nobody pretending to be family? I spent months planning this wedding, and now you embarrass us by putting someone like her at the head table."
Daniel immediately stepped in.
"Mom, that's enough."
But Margaret ignored him. She demanded that security remove Linda before she ruined the ceremony.
Instead of crying or arguing, the older woman slowly stood up. She picked up her worn leather handbag and placed it gently on the table.
"Before I leave," she said calmly, "there's something I should clarify."
Margaret rolled her eyes.
"No one wants your excuses."
Without another word, Linda opened her handbag and carefully placed a thick stack of legal documents across the white tablecloth.
Property records.
Ownership agreements.

Corporate filings.
The room grew strangely quiet as everyone leaned closer, wondering why an ordinary-looking woman would be carrying documents like these.
