Chapter 2

CHAPTER 2 The Owner No One Recognized
Daniel frowned as he examined the papers.
"What are these?"
Linda answered with the same calm voice she had used from the beginning.
"Property transfers. Corporate ownership records."
Margaret laughed.
"What kind of joke is this? This hotel belongs to—"
She stopped the moment her eyes landed on the company logo printed across the first page.
The signature beneath it.
The ownership seal.
Her face instantly lost its color.
"My name is Linda Harris," the woman said quietly. "I've owned this hotel for the past twelve years."
A wave of whispers spread through the ballroom.
Daniel looked back and forth between the documents and the hotel logo hanging near the entrance.
"Mom... she's telling the truth."
Linda explained that years earlier she had stepped away from daily operations, leaving professional managers to run the hotel group while she lived a quiet life away from public attention.
"I came today because my daughter invited me."
Emily stared in disbelief.
"You own... all of this?"
Linda smiled gently.
"I never wanted you to feel you needed my name."
She admitted she had deliberately hidden her wealth because she wanted to know whether Daniel's family would judge Emily by her character or by her background.
Margaret's voice trembled.
"You tricked us."
Linda calmly shook her head.
"No."
May you like
"I simply allowed you to reveal yourselves."
The silence that followed was heavier than any argument.
