Chapter 6 - The Frozen Accounts

I dialed Rachel’s line right away. "What did you find?"
"A series of recurring, high-value transfers from Aranda Solutions' main operating account to an entity named NV Strategy & Consulting," Rachel reported.
"I’ve never heard of that LLC."
"It was filed seven months ago. The sole managing member is Natalie Vance."
I sat down heavily in my chair. "How much money?"
"So far, we’ve tracked four hundred and thirty-eight thousand dollars."
An icy dread settled in my stomach. "That’s impossible."
"It gets worse, Sarah. Several of these transfers were authorized using your personal digital corporate certificate."
"I never approved a single transfer to that company."
"That’s what I feared," Rachel said. "Which is why we've triggered a security freeze protocol. But because you are a primary guarantor and co-signatory, I need your written confirmation that you did not authorize these transactions."
I looked toward the locked office door. Downstairs, Thomas was still pitching his grand vision to wealthy investors while nearly half a million dollars of company capital had been funneled to his mistress's shell company.
"If I sign, can you freeze all outgoing transfers immediately?"
"Under your personal guarantee agreement, yes. But understand the fallout, Sarah: corporate cards will be declined instantly, non-essential vendor payments will pause, and digital banking access for all executives will be suspended pending a full forensic audit."
"Send the authorization."
"Are you certain?"

I thought of Natalie intentionally spilling wine on me. I thought of Thomas handing her my mother's diamond necklace. I thought of our children sleeping soundly in the west wing, completely unaware that their father was draining their inheritance to fund a double life.
"Send it," I repeated. "I'm signing it right now."
