Chapter 3: Freeze Everything

Inside the car, Mariana stared out the window.
The red mark on her cheek remained vivid.
Her phone connected.
"I’m sorry, Miss Escalonto,"
her family’s chief legal officer said.
"What would you like us to do?"
Mariana’s voice was calm.
"Freeze everything."
Silence.
"Everything connected to Hale Industries. Credit lines, pending acquisitions, shipping contracts, and the Singapore merger."
The lawyer inhaled sharply.
"That will collapse them by morning."
"Good."
She ended the call.
Across the city, alarms began ringing in offices that had no idea why their funding had vanished.
Victor’s CFO called him at 1:13 a.m.
