Victor begged for a meeting.
Mariana finally agreed.
They met on the rooftop of the Escalonto Tower overlooking the city.
The wind lifted her dark hair as she faced him.
"I was wrong,"
he said.
"I didn’t know who you were."
Mariana’s eyes hardened.
"That’s the problem, Victor."
"You believed my value depended on my last name."
She stepped closer.
"Do you know what hurt the most?"
He shook his head.
"Not the slap."
"The fact that you didn’t hesitate."
She handed him a single document.
A buyout order.
Escalonto Holdings was acquiring the remaining controlling shares of Hale Industries.
Victor looked up.
"You’re taking my company."
"No,"
