Chapter 3: The Blue Sewing Box

It was my mother’s.
Old. Faded. Covered in dust.
I found it that night while helping her pack a small bag. She didn’t want to stay in that house anymore. I didn’t blame her.
“What’s this?” I asked.
She hesitated.
“Nothing important.”
But I opened it anyway.
Inside were letters.
Dozens of them.
All addressed to me.
None ever sent.
My chest tightened as I opened the first one.
“My son, I didn’t want to worry you…”
The second:
“She gets angry when I mention your name…”
The third:
“If anything happens to me, please don’t blame yourself…”
I couldn’t read the rest.
At the bottom of the box was something else.
A small envelope.
Inside it…
Medical reports.
Bruises. Fractures. Internal injuries.
Dates matching the footage.
And then—
One final note.
“Lina saved me again today. I don’t know how much longer she can…”
I closed the box.
That was the moment something inside me changed.
May you like
Not broke.
Changed.
