PART 5: The Counter-Offensive

I spent the next three days locked in my home office, surviving on espresso and pure adrenaline. While Anna rested upstairs, monitored by a private nurse I hired using the last of our personal savings, I went through years of corporate digital archives.

Eleanor believed she was untouchable because she was the matriarch of Vanguard Holdings. She believed my father’s legacy protected her. But my father was a fair man; Eleanor, however, had been using the company’s charitable foundation as her personal tax shelter for over a decade.

I found offshore transfers, fabricated consulting fees paid to her close friends (the same friends who signed those affidavits against Anna), and systematic evasion of corporate taxes totaling millions.

I called an old friend from law school, David Vance, who specialized in high-stakes corporate law and white-collar defense. He arrived at my house at midnight, looking over the mountain of evidence I had printed out.

David let out a low whistle, rubbing his chin. "Leo... this is explosive. If you take this to the IRS and the federal prosecutors, your mother isn't just looking at a lawsuit. She’s looking at federal prison time. But you realize what this means? Vanguard Holdings will collapse. Your family name will be dragged through the mud."

"My family name died the night my mother put her hands on my pregnant wife," I said without a shred of hesitation. "I want the grandparental lawsuit dropped. I want a lifetime restraining order against Eleanor, Marcus, and anyone associated with them. And I want my full severance package from Vanguard—not a penny less."

"And if she refuses?" David asked.

"Then she can swap her designer dresses for a gray jumpsuit," I replied coldly.

The next morning, David delivered a formal demand letter to Eleanor's high-priced attorneys. We gave them twenty-four hours to respond before we filed the whistleblower report with the federal authorities.

The reaction was instantaneous. Within two hours, my phone rang. It was Eleanor.

I answered and put it on speaker.

"You ungrateful, treacherous snake!" she shrieked, her voice completely stripped of its usual aristocratic poise. "I gave you life! I gave you everything! You would destroy your father’s legacy for that peasant girl?"

"You destroyed this family when you chose cruelty over love, Mother," I said calmly. "You have twenty-two hours left. Tell your lawyers to sign the agreement, or prepare for indictment."

"I will see you burn in hell first!" she screamed, and slammed the phone down.

I looked at David, who was sitting across from me. "She’s going to fight," David warned. "When cornered, animals like her become desperate. Watch your perimeter, Leo. She might try something reckless."
