Chapter 3 - The Morning Audit

At 8:00 AM, the morning sun broke over the Dallas skyline, but inside the luxury penthouse of the Robles estate in Highland Park, the atmosphere was triumphant.
Carmen Robles sat at her marble breakfast bar, sipping espresso while her son, Javier, adjusted his silk tie in front of a mirror.
"You did well last night, Javier," Carmen said, a smug, self-satisfied smile on her face. "Once she signs that Uptown condo over to our family trust, we can leverage it for the commercial expansion in North Dallas. The girl is weak. She’ll fall in line by this afternoon."
"I just hope she didn't run to her mother," Javier muttered, though he looked highly pleased with himself. "Elena is stubborn."
"Elena is a nobody with a Dallas apartment," Carmen sneered. "What can she do? We have the best attorneys in the city on our payroll."
The heavy oak front doors of the penthouse didn't knock—they were physically unlatched and pushed open as four private security guards in dark suits stepped into the foyer, followed by Alexander.

Javier spun around, his hand instinctively going to his pocket. "Who the hell are you? This is private property! Get out before I call the police!"
"Call them, Javier," Alexander said, walking into the living room with the slow, relaxed gait of a predator that knew the prey had nowhere to run. He threw a heavy, leather-bound folder onto the marble table. "I’m Alexander Warren. And as of thirty minutes ago, I own this building."
