Chapter 6 - The Unbroken Dawn
Six months later.
The morning sun cast a warm, golden glow across the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Uptown Dallas condo. The air was fresh, carrying the sweet scent of blooming jasmine from the balcony.
Sofia stood near the window, wearing a comfortable cream-colored sweater and jeans. The bruises were gone, her swollen lip had healed, and the haunted shadow in her eyes had been replaced by a quiet, resilient peace. She was working on her architectural drafts, her hands steady, her posture strong.
Alexander and I sat at the kitchen island, sharing a quiet pot of coffee—the first time we had sat together without anger in ten years.
"The district attorney called this morning," Alexander said, placing his cup down. "Javier and Carmen both took plea deals to avoid a maximum federal trial. Javier is looking at eight years in a state facility. Carmen was sentenced to twelve."
"And the rest of the women who were in that room?" I asked.
"Every single one of them was charged as an accessory," Alexander replied, his eyes turning to Sofia with a deep, fierce pride. "Their assets have been seized to pay for Sofia’s civil damages. They are completely ruined."
Sofia walked over, wrapping her arms around both of our shoulders from behind. "Thank you," she whispered, her voice filled with a beautiful, light-hearted warmth. "For bringing me back."
"You never left, baby girl," Alexander said, squeezing her hand. "We just had to remind the world who you belong to."
The Robles family had thought they could control my daughter because they had a name, a legal background, and a web of expensive lies. They thought a young bride from a divorced family would stay silent to protect her reputation.
But they had completely forgotten the most fundamental rule of the wild:

I smiled, taking a deep, clean breath of the morning air, completely victorious, completely free, and finally, whole.
