Chapter 6 - Home at LastTen years after the day Mariana returned home, the orange tree stood taller than ever.

Mateo, now a confident teenager, helped coach younger children at the foundation's community center.
One evening, he and Mariana sat together beneath the same tree where she had first found him chained years before.
He looked toward the old treehouse and smiled.
"You know..."
"What?" Mariana asked.
"I barely remember the doghouse anymore."
She looked at him carefully.
"What do you remember?"
He thought for a long moment.
"I remember you carrying me."
"I remember your jacket."
"I remember feeling safe for the first time."
Mariana slipped her arm around his shoulders.
"You were never broken, Mateo."
"You were simply waiting for someone to remind you that you were loved."
He leaned his head against hers.
"I think Dad and Grandma believed they stole my childhood."
"They did steal part of it," Mariana said gently.
"But they failed to steal your future."
The evening breeze carried the scent of orange blossoms across the garden.
Children laughed nearby.
Families shared dinner on the porch.
The house that had once echoed with cruelty had become a sanctuary for hope.
Mariana looked around at everything they had built together and smiled.
In the end, justice had punished those responsible.
But love had accomplished something even greater.
It had given a frightened little boy back his childhood, his dignity, and the one thing no court could ever award—
May you like
A family that would never abandon him again.
The End.
