"Emma!"
It wasn't a hitman. It was Lorenzo.
His suit jacket was gone, his white shirt stained with soot and blood, his eyes wild with a manic, terrifying panic until the flashlight beam hit the yellow blanket.
He dropped his weapon, falling to his knees and pulling both Emma and Sophia into a fierce, crushing embrace. "I got back," he sobbed, his chest heaving. "The meeting was an ambush, but we broke them. Matteo Moretti is dead. The family is gone. It's over, Emma. It's finally over."

Sophia pulled back, her little hand wiping a streak of dust from her father's face. "Papa... no cry. Emma sang the song. The dark went away."
Lorenzo looked at Emma through his tears, seeing the fierce, unwavering devotion of the woman who had risked everything to protect his child. He realized then that Emma Foster hadn't just been a messenger from his dead wife. She was the anchor sent to save them from drowning in their own grief.
