PART 3: THE FORENSIC RECOVERY

By noon, the rain had cleared, leaving the city beneath a cold, unforgiving winter light.

Sophia sat in the private conference room of Thompson & Associates, wearing a tailored navy blue blazer. Her face was calm, though the dark red outline of Michael’s fingers remained clearly visible across her left cheek.

Beside her sat Mr. Peterson, her family's lifelong advisor, and Attorney Richard Thompson, who was reviewing a massive stack of deed registries.

"They didn't just spend the monthly allowances, Sophia," Mr. Peterson said, sliding a highlighted spreadsheet toward her. "Michael used the Greenwich property title as unauthorized leverage to secure a secondary commercial lien for his tech startup. He forged your co-signer authorization on the November addendum."

"He thought I would never look at the corporate filings," Sophia said quietly, her voice carrying the cold weight of an investigator.

"He thought you were too isolated to fight back," Attorney Thompson agreed, his expression grim. "But because the premarital donation trust specifies that any modification requires an in-person notary verification from your family’s private firm, his signatures are legally dead. It’s a clean-cut case of grand larceny and corporate forgery."

Suddenly, the heavy glass doors of the law office were shoved open.

Michael burst into the room, his dark suit wrinkled, his hair messy, his face pale with a desperate panic he could no longer hide. Behind him, two private security guards immediately stepped into the frame, blocking his path to the table.

"Sophia!" Michael cried out, his hands held out in a submissive, shaking gesture. "Please... you have to listen to me. The board is forcing a liquidation vote in two hours. If you don't sign the collateral reinstatement form, NexusCore goes under by sunset. I’ll lose everything."

Sophia didn't stand up. She didn't look at his hands. She simply met his eyes through the glass boundary of the table.

"You already lost everything, Michael," Sophia said, her voice dropping into a low, deadly register. "The second you lifted your hand against me in that dining room, you took your company down with you."
