Chapter 2 - The Admiral’s Wrath

The transition from the violent ocean to the sterile, high-tech interior of the military medical helicopter was a blur of flashing red lights and shouting medics.
“Her blood pressure is plummeting! Fetal heart deceleration detected!” a military flight surgeon yelled over the roar of the engines, slamming an IV line into my arm while sealing a trauma blanket around my shivering body.
I kept my hand locked over my stomach, breathing through the blinding agony. “Save my baby... please...”
“We’ve got you, ma’am,” the medic said firmly. “Your father’s tactical team cleared the runway at the federal air station. The surgical unit is waiting on the tarmac.”
When the helicopter touched down fifteen minutes later, a team of civilian and military specialists swarmed the aircraft. But before they could wheel me toward the trauma bay, the heavy rear ramp lowered to reveal a tall, imposing figure standing on the tarmac.
Admiral Hector Sterling wore his pristine dress whites, his shoulders bearing four gleaming gold stars, his face carved from granite. He didn't look like a grandfather waiting in a hospital corridor; he looked like a four-star commander assessing a battlefield.
He stepped inside the chopper, his eyes locking onto my pale, blood-soaked face. For a fraction of a second, the iron mask of the commander cracked, revealing the raw, protective terror of a father.
“You’re safe, Genevieve,” my father said, his voice dropping into a low, gravelly whisper as he gently pressed his hand against my forehead. “The medical team has the operating room secured. Nothing on this earth is going to touch you or my grandchild.”
As they wheeled me rapidly through the automated doors toward the surgical suite, I caught a glimpse of the television screens mounted in the corridor.

Live aerial footage from the Cabo resort was broadcasting across every major news network. Coast Guard cutters had boxed in the private dock. And standing in handcuffs, flanked by tactical operators in full tactical gear, were Julian Vance and Victoria Hayes.
Julian’s mouth was open in a silent scream of panic as federal agents slapped steel bracelets on his wrists. He was finally discovering what happens when you mistake a quiet wife for a helpless victim, and her father for an Admiral of the United States Navy.
