Chapter 5 - The Geneva Subsidiary

Three days later, the executive office had been converted into a command center. Financial audits, organizational charts, and bank statements covered the massive boardroom table. Cold coffee was the only thing keeping Valeria awake as she juggled emergency board meetings with the precious few hours she spent holding her son.

Gabriel walked in without knocking, a red folder tucked under his arm. Dark circles ringed his eyes from seventy-two hours without sleep.

"We found it, Valeria. Or at least, a piece of it," Gabriel said, dropping the folder onto the table. "Your ex-husband's family business was completely bankrupt before you married him. Someone injected twelve million euros through a Cayman Islands shell company, but the originating bank was our own group’s Geneva subsidiary."

Valeria's eyebrows knitted together. "Wait... are you telling me someone used my own company’s money to fund the people who destroyed my life?"

"Exactly. Someone inside our board of directors authorized that confidential transfer," Gabriel explained. "And there's more. The authorization bears a verified digital signature. It wasn't your father's. It belongs to Alejandro De la Vega."

Valeria felt a chill run down her spine. Alejandro De la Vega was the Vice Chairman of the board, her father’s best friend, and the man who had watched her grow up.

"No... that can't be," she whispered. "Alejandro stood beside me at my father's funeral. He promised he would look out for me..."

"Greed doesn't respect loyalty, Valeria," Gabriel said coldly. "And Alejandro controls 40% of the remaining shares. If he’s behind this, next week’s shareholder meeting won't be a board meeting... it’ll be an execution."
