Chapter 9

Chapter 9: The Celebration
Six months later, the Vance Sanctuary was named one of the top luxury eco-resorts in California. But for Katherine, the real celebration was happening on the private beach below the property.
The sun was dipping below the horizon, painting the sky in brilliant shades of pink and violet. A small bonfire crackled against the cool ocean breeze. Robert was there, raising a glass of local wine, alongside a few close friends they had made in the community.
David walked over to Katherine, holding two cups of warm cider. He handed her one, his fingers lingering against hers.
"Step away with me for a moment?" he whispered, his eyes dancing with a nervous excitement.
Katherine smiled and followed him down the shoreline, away from the warmth of the fire, where the waves gently lapped against their bare feet.
David stopped, turning to face her. The ocean breeze caught his dark hair. He took a deep breath, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a small, simple wooden box.
"Katherine, when I met you, I saw a woman who had survived a storm I couldn't even imagine," David said, his voice thick with emotion. "But over the last year, I’ve watched you build a life of pure beauty, kindness, and strength. You don't need anyone to save you—you’ve already saved yourself. But I would be the luckiest man alive if you let me stand by your side, love you, and protect your peace for the rest of our days."
He opened the box, revealing a stunning, ethically sourced raw sapphire ring, deep blue like the ocean before them. "Will you marry me, Katherine?"
Katherine looked from the ring to David’s honest, loving face. There was no manipulation here. No corporate contracts, no hidden secrets, no family dynasties to uphold. Just a good man offering his heart to a woman who was finally whole.

Tears of pure happiness blurred her vision as a radiant smile broke across her face. "Yes, David. A thousand times, yes."
As he slid the ring onto her finger and pulled her into a warm, gentle embrace, Katherine looked over his shoulder at the bonfire where her father was laughing. The cold breakfast in Beverly Hills felt like a lifetime ago.
