Chapter 8: The Thorne Industries Coup

While Khloe quietly built her new life at the countryside estate, a devastating storm was brewing in the glass towers of Thorne Industries. The fallout from Isabella Rossi’s arrest had not dissipated. The federal investigation into her corporate espionage had leaked devastating details to the press, and the company's stock was plummeting.

Several powerful board members—secretly aligned with financial allies of Dr. Robert Hayes—saw Marcus’s personal scandal as the perfect opportunity to strike. They began executing a brutal, hostile takeover to completely oust Marcus as CEO.

For three weeks, Marcus found himself fighting a grueling war on two fronts. He spent his nights reading legal briefs to save his life's work, and his days driving down to the countryside, ensuring he was early for his strictly timed custody visits with Ethan. He was exhausted, broken, and running out of allies.

On a cold Tuesday morning, an emergency board meeting was called at the Thorne headquarters. Marcus sat at the head of the massive boardroom table, surrounded by stony-faced executives who refused to meet his gaze.

“The vote is nearly unanimous, Marcus,” the board chairman said, sliding a termination document across the glass table. “Your personal life has become an unacceptable liability to our shareholders. It is time for you to step down.”

Marcus closed his eyes, bracing himself to sign away the empire he had built from nothing. He had lost his wife, almost lost his son, and now, he was losing his name.

Suddenly, the heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open.

The entire room turned. Khloe walked in. She was no longer wearing the soft, pastel maternity dresses of a submissive billionaire's wife. She wore a sharp, tailored navy blue power suit, her hair pulled back into a sleek, professional knot. Her presence completely commanded the room.

Marcus gasped, his heart hammering against his ribs. “Khloe? What are you doing here?”

The chairman frowned, adjusting his glasses. “Ms. Hayes, this is a closed executive session. You have no standing here.”

“Actually, Mr. Chairman, she does,” Dr. Robert Hayes’s personal attorney stepped out from behind Khloe, presenting a certified legal file. “As part of the finalized divorce settlement, Ms. Khloe Hayes holds a permanent twenty percent voting share in the Thorne Foundation, which automatically converts to corporate voting rights in the event of a leadership crisis.”

The boardroom erupted into stunned murmurs. Marcus stared at his ex-wife in utter shock. The board members who wanted Marcus gone suddenly looked terrified; they assumed Khloe had arrived to deliver the final, vengeful blow that would ruin him forever.
