Chapter 44: The London Ledger

The flight from Zürich to London was a blur of gray clouds and silent fury. Enzo sat in the private cabin of the DeLuca jet, his weapons laid out on the leather table before him, disassembling and cleaning each piece with a mechanical, rhythmic precision. He didn't speak. He didn't look at Harper. The foundation of his identity had been shattered, and the only thing keeping him together was the cold, unyielding weight of the steel in his hands.

Harper sat opposite him, her notebook finally open. She wasn't writing names anymore; she was mapping the connections between the European families.

"The Architect isn't a name, Enzo," she said, her voice cutting through the clicking of his weapon parts. "It’s a title. In the old Vance shipping records, the 'Architect of the Covenant' was always the head of the Belgrave Group—a merchant bank based out of Mayfair. They handle the private placement funds for the British aristocracy."

Enzo snapped the slide of his Sig Sauer back into place with a sharp, metallic clack. "We don't go to the bank, Harper. If they own the system here, they’ll see us coming from Heathrow. We go to the source."

"And what is the source?"

"The man who inherited Nathan's seat," Enzo said, his eyes darkening to black. "My father had a brother who left Chicago in 1989. Leo DeLuca. He was supposed to have died in a car bombing in Palermo. But according to the Zürich ledger, he’s been living in a manor house in Surrey for thirty years under the name Julian Vance the Elder."

He looked at her, his jaw set in a hard, grim line. "We aren't fighting a new enemy, Harper. We’re fighting the family I thought I buried."
