Chapter 11 - Trust No One.

Julian stood at the landing, a smug grin plastered across his healed, handsome face.
He wasn't alone.
Five heavily armed mercenaries stepped out from the shadows, their laser sights painting my chest in red dots.
"You walked right into a trap, Elena," Julian mocked, slowly descending the stairs.
"Did you really think a rat like Marcus would keep his mouth shut for free?"
My blood ran cold as the realization hit me like a physical blow.
Marcus had sold us out to buy his way back into the syndicate.
"Where is my mother?" I demanded, my voice trembling with suppressed rage.
Julian chuckled, swirling a glass of amber liquid in his hand.
"The explosion was a nice touch, but my men apprehended her before she could flee the scene," he lied smoothly.
I knew he was lying, because my earpiece crackled with static.
"I didn't sell you out, kid," Marcus's voice whispered frantically in my ear.
"They tracked your mother's burner phone, I'm setting up on the roof across from you now."
I didn't react, keeping my eyes locked on Julian's arrogant face.

"You're going to die tonight, Julian," I stated, raising my weapon.
"Take her alive," Julian ordered his men, stepping back into the safety of the shadows.
