Finding Marcus Thorne required slipping into the dangerous underbelly of the city docks.
We navigated through rusty shipping containers and stray dogs, avoiding the gaze of rough looking dockworkers.

My mother knocked on the heavy metal door in a rhythmic, frantic pattern.
The door slid open an inch, revealing the barrel of a shotgun.
"Who sent you?" a gravelly voice demanded from the shadows.
"Julian Vance sent us running," I answered, stepping into the narrow sliver of light.
The door opened wider, and a tall, scarred man lowered the weapon.
Marcus looked at my bruised face and the tattered remains of my dress peeking out from the hoodie.
"You're the new bride," he noted, a cynical smirk crossing his lips.
"I'm the widow in training," I corrected him sharply.
He let out a low whistle and waved us inside the dimly lit warehouse.
"If Julian is looking for you, bringing you here is a death sentence," Marcus warned.

"If you help me kill him, you get your city back," I offered, staring directly into his cold eyes.
He paused, lowering the shotgun completely, and smiled a dangerous smile.
