Chapter 4 - The Midnight Chase.

My father slammed his foot on the gas, tearing out of the loading dock into the rainy night.
I looked out the back window and saw two black sedans swerving into traffic behind us.
"They're following us!" I screamed, ducking as a bullet shattered the rear windshield.
"Hold on," my father grunted, violently jerking the steering wheel.
The SUV careened around a sharp corner, tires squealing against the wet asphalt.
My mother handed me a first-aid kit from under the seat.
"Pack your wounds, Elena," she ordered, her voice trembling but stern.
I pressed a sterile pad to the deep gash on my shoulder, wincing in agony.
The pursuing sedans were gaining ground, their headlights blinding us in the rearview mirrors.
My father merged onto the highway, pushing the engine to its absolute limit.
A heavy thud shook our vehicle as one of the sedans rammed us from behind.
We spun wildly, almost clipping a concrete barrier before my father regained control.
"I can't shake them," he muttered, sweat pouring down his face.

He reached under his seat and pulled out a heavy black revolver.
"Take the wheel, Martha," he commanded.
