Chapter 15 - My second mistake

After the assault, I overreached once.

Not legally through the trust.

Personally.

Weston Harbor had several investors I knew socially.

One was my old friend Charles Lind.

I called him.

I said:

“You should look very closely at what Ethan told you about trust backing.”

That sentence was fair.

Then I added:

“Because there will be no Hale money coming, not while I’m alive.”

Too absolute.

Section Twelve was temporary.

Northstar could later approve legitimate investments.

I did not personally control all future trust decisions.

Charles withdrew from a pending funding round two days later.

Ethan’s lawyers accused me of sabotaging his business.

Did my call cause the withdrawal?

Partly.

Charles testified he already had concerns.

Still, I should not have used the violence to turn myself into the market.

Samuel was furious.

“You are not the trust.”

“I know.”

“Then stop speaking like you are.”

“I was angry.”

“Anger is not a fiduciary role.”

I hated him for twelve minutes.

Then apologized.

In later proceedings, I admitted the call.

No pretending.

Weston Harbor’s problems existed before me.

My interference did not create them.

It did give Ethan one legitimate grievance.

Victims can make bad business calls after being hurt.

The answer is not to deny them.

The answer is to stop.
