Chapter 9 - The patio camera

The main house had security cameras.
Ethan had installed them.
Thank you, Ethan.
One camera covered the rear terrace.
No view inside the living room because of privacy masking.
It showed the glass door.
The shove itself happened partly behind the frame.
But sequence mattered.
Margaret enters the edge of view moving backward.
Both of Ethan’s arms extend forward.
My body accelerates.
Glass breaks.
I fall.
Vanessa is visible inside.
She does not appear surprised before impact.
Afterward, Ethan steps toward the opening.
He does not help me.
I rise.
Walk away.
Audio from the outdoor microphone was faint.
Enough to capture:
Ethan:
“Pack tonight. You’re finished here.”
Vanessa’s:
“Broke, useless, ungrateful”
was partially obscured by breaking glass but detectable in original audio.
Not needed for criminal case.
Cruel words are not the main charge.
The video contradicted Ethan’s first version that I merely lost balance while pulling away.
His lawyer revised.
Ethan admitted pushing.
Said:
“I intended to move her away from me, not through the glass.”
That might be true.
Intent to cause the exact injury was disputed.
He had still put both hands on a sixty-seven-year-old woman beside a glass door.
The law did not require him to intend eleven stitches before conduct mattered.
Vanessa’s statement changed too.
First:
She did not see contact.
After video:

She saw Ethan “guide Margaret backward.”
Words become flexible when evidence arrives.
