Amanda lost the bookkeeping work.

She sold her large house a year later.

Not because I took it.

Because legal fees, reduced income, and reality finally required downsizing.

She wrote me six letters.

I read one.

The third.

It said:

I kept believing Austin needed protecting because he was the child who always made the worst mistakes. I treated your competence as proof you needed less from me.

That sentence hurt.

Then:

When he hit you, I was angry at you for exposing him before I was horrified at what he did. There is no defense for that.
