At 2:18 a.m., the night after surgery, I texted Austin.
I should not have.
My attorney had not yet told me not to contact him.
Common sense had.
I ignored it.
I will destroy you for what you did. I will make sure everyone knows exactly what you are.
He did not reply.
I sent another.
Mom too.
Then fell asleep.
When I woke, shame arrived before breakfast.
I showed Detective Ruiz.
“Why are you giving me this?”
“Because his lawyer will.”
Correct.
The text later became useful to the defense in several settings.
Monica was vindictive.
Monica launched the financial investigation as revenge.
Monica wanted to destroy the family.
My own words helped.
I learned something.
You can be a victim of violence and still create bad evidence.
