Chapter 7 - The Harbor Confrontation

10:15 PM — 1 Hour, 45 Minutes Remaining
The harbor office was an abandoned shipping warehouse owned by a subsidiary of Sterling Corp. Rain was pouring in sheets when I pulled my SUV inside the dimly lit structure.
Liam was waiting by a rusted container, holding a thick black leather binder under his jacket. He looked pale, trembling violently.
“You came,” Liam said, stepping forward. “Here. It’s all here. Every illegal transaction Mom made over the last five years. The offshore shell accounts, the bribes, the loan guarantees.”
I reached for the binder, but before my fingers touched the leather, the harsh glare of headlights blinded us both.
A heavy black sedan roared into the warehouse, blocking the exit. The doors opened, and two imposing men in dark suits stepped out, followed by Eleanor holding a gold-handled umbrella.
Liam gasped, taking a step back. “Mom? How did you—”
“You tracked his phone, didn't you, Liam?” Eleanor said, her voice dripping with cold contempt as she walked toward us. “Did you really think I didn't have a GPS lock on my own son’s device? You pathetic, weak idiot.”
Liam shrank back. “Mom, he knows everything! The lenders—”
“Shut up!” Eleanor snapped. She turned her icy glare onto me. “David. You always thought you were smarter than everyone else. You thought you could run away with your little peasant wife and ruin my family’s legacy?”
May you like
“You ruined it yourself, Eleanor,” I said, stepping between her men and Liam. “The line of credit at midnight won't save you. The audit logs are already locked.”
Eleanor laughed, a terrible, sharp sound that echoed off the metal walls. “The audit logs don't matter if you aren't alive to press 'Cancel', my dear son.”
