Chapter 16 - Christopher moves Florence home

Her condominium renovation magically became finished two weeks after I filed for divorce.

Interesting timing.

Florence moved out.

Christopher remained in the house under temporary occupancy agreement while I stayed with my parents, then moved into a short-term apartment.

When I heard Florence had left, part of me thought:

Maybe I could go home.

That scared me.

Not because I wanted Christopher.

Because homes exert gravity.

My closet.

My coffee mug.

My backyard.

My commute.

My marriage had become unsafe, but the house still contained ordinary comfort.

Dana asked:

“Do you want reconciliation?”

“No.”

“Do you want your house?”

“Yes.”

“Different question.”

Exactly.

I rented a small apartment ten minutes from work.

One bedroom.

Cheap counters.

Thin walls.

The upstairs neighbor vacuumed at 6:30 a.m.

I loved it.

No one opened my suitcase.
