PART 22: THE BERLIN OVERRIDE

PART 22: THE BERLIN OVERRIDE
By sunrise, Marcus Bell stood before Samantha’s desk, an encrypted data portfolio open to a series of international maritime transit filings. His face was tight with the calculated focus of a strategist who knew the board was expanding.
"The Berlin terminal isn't an outside server array, Samantha," Marcus explained, pointing to a sequence of highlighted routing codes on his tablet. "It’s a direct physical tap into the transatlantic data pipeline. Aether Laboratories was quietly re-activated three months ago by a European tech conglomerate called Valis Consortium—managed by Sir Reginald’s youngest grandson, Christian Vance."
The name introduced a cold, calculated variable to the equation. Christian Vance was an expert in distributed network architecture who had spent five years working in the automated industrial sectors of Germany, entirely detached from the domestic scandals of the Callahan family in New York.
"He’s not trying to modify the commercial banking standard," Samantha analyzed, her mind assembling the financial matrix with clinical precision. "He’s targeting the automated environmental sensors in our infrastructure. If Christian overrides the sensor firmware, he can trigger an artificial data latency across our European logistics hubs, causing the system to automatically fail its compliance checks when the Frankfurt exchange opens on Monday."
"We have exactly twenty-four hours before the European regulatory compliance audit begins," Marcus warned, pointing to the countdown timer on the wall monitor. "If we don't isolate the physical terminal Christian is using to execute the override, the data packet corruption will spread to the primary core."

Samantha stood up, smoothing down the front of her tailored ivory blazer. She didn't look at the morning traffic moving smoothly below the terrace. Her focus was fixed on the algorithmic variables.
"Get the private transport ready, Marcus," Samantha said, her voice steady and absolute. "We are going to Berlin. It’s time to show Christian Vance what happens when you build a conspiracy on old data."
