PART 28: THE CANAL INTERCEPT

PART 28: THE CANAL INTERCEPT

The evening fog over the Port of Amsterdam was a thick, grey blanket that swallowed the towering lights of the container cranes as Samantha’s car pulled up to the secured maritime dock. The cargo vessel, The Northern Star, was a massive steel monolith, its decks stacked with thousands of shipping containers, ready to clear the harbor by midnight.

Samantha walked through the restricted customs area with absolute, unyielding poise, her trench coat shielding her from the freezing mist. Marcus followed half a step behind, carrying his secure digital console.

They were escorted to the captain’s quarters, where the managing director of North Sea Maritime, Hendrick Van Der Berg, sat behind a minimalist steel desk. He was a stern man in his late sixties, dressed in a formal nautical blazer, his eyes as cold and unforgiving as the open sea.

"Miss Kensington," Hendrick said, his voice carrying a heavy Dutch accent and an arrogant, aristocratic dismissiveness. "Your New York legal decrees mean absolutely nothing to the international shipping laws of the high seas. The Northern Star is registered under a flag of convenience, and her cargo is fully cleared by local customs. You have no authority to delay this vessel."

Samantha sat down calmly in the chair opposite his desk, her face a perfect sheet of corporate ice. "Your cargo manifests are cleared, Hendrick. But your digital security tokens are fraudulent."

Marcus opened his digital briefcase, turning the screen of his console toward the shipping executive. The screen displayed a live tracking diagram from the Kensington AI, showing that Hendrick's private server had been executing an active, unauthorized data stream to an anonymous IP address based in London.

"The data interception protocol you used to copy our server serial numbers was executed using a classified government security channel derived from the old Ironclad Defense network," Samantha stated, her voice dropping into that dangerous cadence of a definitive checkmate. "You didn't just coordinate a commercial shipping transfer, Hendrick. You utilized compromised military intelligence assets to commit international industrial espionage against a utility network protected by the United States Treasury."
