PART 33: THE TOKYO CLEARING
Beatrice Vance turned her chair around, a bitter, arrogant smile twisting her sharp features. She held up a encrypted security token. "You think a simple server partition stops an automated short-sale array, Samantha? The orders are hard-coded into the trading exchange's primary liquidity routers. Your software can't intercept a transaction that’s already been authorized by the clearing banks."
The countdown progress bar on her central screen ticked down to less than two minutes, the short-sale spoofing algorithm crawling to ninety-five percent stabilization.
Samantha stood perfectly still, her face an un-moving sheet of ice. "You built your entire trading strategy on the assumption that the Tokyo exchange relies on static transaction validation, Beatrice. You believed that because your fund operates through a Singapore shell company, your capital remained untraceable. But you made a fundamental error in your baseline logic."
Beatrice’s smile vanished as all sixteen monitors on her desk suddenly flashed bright red before going completely dark, the automated trading streams dissolving into lines of dead code.
"I didn't try to stop the transaction at the bank level, Beatrice," Samantha stated, her voice carrying a terrifying, clinical dominance. "The Kensington AI injected an emergency anti-fraud watermark directly into the exchange's clearinghouse protocol yesterday. The moment your servers executed the short-sale script, the system flagged Kuroda Financial as an active threat to national market security, automatically routing your entire transaction history to the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office."
Marcus Bell tapped a key on his tablet, displaying a verified arrest warrant signed by the Tokyo Chief Prosecutor.

"The funds you used to back the shorts have been legally seized under international anti-money-laundering regulations," Samantha whispered, the words hitting the silent room like a final verdict. "Your sister lost her townhouse, Beatrice. And you just lost your entire fund. Goodbye."
The reinforced glass doors were thrown open as local public prosecutor officers flooded the console room, taking Beatrice into custody. Samantha walked back out into the Tokyo rain, her face illuminated by the neon lights, completely unbothered by the ghosts of her family’s past.
