Chapter 17 - THE ORIGINAL DEEDThe strongest evidence came from a place nobody found dramatic.

A title-insurance archive.
When Arthur died, our lawyer recorded the 2016 deed establishing my life estate and Neftalí’s remainder interest.
The file included written instructions.
My statement:
I intend to remain in the residence for my lifetime unless I independently choose to leave.
Neftalí signed an acknowledgment:
I understand I have no right to remove or compel Eulalia Wren to leave during her lifetime.
Vanessa had no involvement.
Six years later, the disputed deed extinguished that right for no payment.
No separate attorney represented me.
No correspondence existed from me requesting the change.
No draft had been sent to my address.
The supposed acknowledgment used Melissa’s expired commission.
My signature showed simulation.
And Neftalí’s recording contained him telling Vanessa:
“She didn’t sign it.”
At that point, Vanessa’s civil explanation narrowed.
She began claiming Neftalí had forged my signature.
Not her.
That was the counterattack.
He was dead.
Convenient defendant.
Her lawyer suggested Neftalí handled the entire deed because he wanted refinancing.
Vanessa had simply trusted her husband.
The audio?
She said she believed Neftalí had obtained my permission informally.
Why say “you don’t know what she remembers”?
Because she thought I might have consented verbally.
Why mention the loan?
Because they both needed it.
Could Neftalí have forged me?
May you like
Theoretically.
The case needed more.
