Chapter 23 - LAUREN’S PROFFERLauren tried to separate herself from Evan.

Her lawyer offered prosecutors a detailed statement in hopes of cooperation credit.
She admitted the affair.
Admitted helping with insurance paperwork.
Admitted being at the reservoir.
Admitted taking my ring.
But claimed she did not know Evan intended to send my SUV into the water until moments before.
Why say:
“Make sure Rachel is still inside before you push it away”?
Her explanation:
She panicked.
Evan told her I had threatened suicide.
She believed he planned to move the vehicle only a short distance to prevent me driving.
The recording contradicted parts.
Her later words:
“What if she got out?”
Strongly suggested she understood the vehicle had entered water.
Why not call 911?
She had no good answer.
“Fear.”
Fear of what?
Losing Evan.
Losing her job.
Exposure of forged insurance documents.
The affair.
Her role.
One bad choice after another until calling for help would reveal everything.
