Chapter 15 - My mistake after the hospital

I wanted the public to know.
That urge was dangerous.
Three days after escape, while still admitted, I asked Erin to retrieve my regular phone from police after they had imaged what they needed? No, it remained evidence.
I used her phone instead.
I logged into my old social account.
Typed:
If you watched Michael’s “caregiver” videos, you were watching me being controlled. I did not consent to the attic recordings.
My attorney had told me:
“Do not post about the case.”
I posted anyway.
Within twenty minutes, screenshots spread.
People found Stronger Together.
Subscribers began reposting clips.
Some defended Michael.
Some attacked him.
Some attacked me.
Some analyzed my facial expressions as though they were jurors.
One person wrote:
“She looked manipulative even before pregnancy.”
Another:
“Why didn’t she just leave?”
I threw up.
My attorney arrived furious.
“You made a public statement while we are trying to preserve private medical content.”
“I needed people to know.”
“I understand.”
“Then why are you mad?”
“Because understandable and helpful are different.”
There.
My post did not destroy the criminal case.
It did complicate privacy negotiations and gave Michael’s defense an argument that I wanted public pressure.
I deleted it.
Too late.
That was mine.
I had been silenced for nine days.
The first time I regained a voice, I used it before strategy.

Human.
Still a mistake.
