CHAPTER 51 — THE ASCENT OF THE IRON COFFIN

The sea didn’t just churn; it tore itself apart. From the balcony of the Son Tra villa, Claire watched the turquoise waters of Da Nang bay boil into a violent froth of white foam and black silt. The dark metallic structure rising from the depths was immense, shaped like a brutalist cathedral of rusted steel and titanium, shedding centuries of ocean growth in cascading sheets of saltwater.

"Alex, get Lily!" Claire screamed over the deafening mechanical groan echoing across the bay.

Alexander was already moving, but his hand froze halfway to Lily’s shoulder. The little girl was standing inches from the hidden terminal that had risen from the floorboards, her small palms pressed flat against the glass screen. The emerald green light of the display bled into her skin, illuminating the veins in her hands with a faint, bioluminescent glow.

"I can't pull her away," Alexander shouted, his voice laced with panic as his new pacemaker began to hum in sync with the terminal's frequency. "The static charge... it’s locking her in place!"

At the front gate, the young Vietnamese woman in the corporate suit didn't flinch as the earth trembled. She simply set the wooden box containing the jade baby shoe onto the stone wall, stepped backward into a waiting black sedan, and vanished into the coastal fog before Anna could fire a single shot.

Claire ran to the table, grabbing the jade shoe. The moment her fingers touched the stone, a sharp, localized audio transmission broadcasted directly from the hollow heel, using her own inner ear as a conductor.

"The grandfathers do not like to be kept waiting, Claire," a voice whispered—a voice that was undeniably Victoria Whitmore’s, though it sounded younger, completely unfiltered by age or illness. "The money you destroyed in Switzerland was just the paper currency of slaves. What lies beneath the bay is the ledger of the men who write the laws of gravity. Take the child to the water, or watch the bay swallow the city."

On the screen, the countdown hit 00:00.

A blinding pulse of emerald light shot outward from the terminal, shattering every glass window in the villa. The dark structure in the bay let out a massive, pressurized hiss, its colossal automated bay doors slowly grinding open, inviting them into the dark.
