CHAPTER 58 — THE ROOM IN BANGKOK

Claire woke up to the sound of steady, electronic beeping.

The air was warm, smelling of sterilization and tropical rain. She was lying in an immaculate, high-tech medical suite overlooking the glowing skyline of Bangkok, Thailand. Her leg was completely healed, wrapped in a synthetic cellular matrix bandage that left no scar.

She bolted upright, ripping the IV lines from her arm. "Lily!"

"She isn't here, Claire."

Alexander sat in a wheelchair by the window, his chest wrapped in heavy biometric monitoring cables. He looked twenty years older, his hair streaked with silver, his hands shaking slightly as he held a cup of cold tea.

"Where is she, Alex?" Claire demanded, throwing her legs over the side of the bed. "Where did they take my daughter?"

"They didn't take her away from the legacy, Claire," Alexander said, his voice entirely broken.

Claire gripped the edge of the mattress, her knuckles turning white. "And Lily is the source."

"She’s not just the source, Claire," a voice spoke from the doorway. Anna Carter walked in, her arm in a sling, her face hardened into marble. "We found Thomas’s encrypted ledger before the vault blew. The jade shoe... it didn't activate a vault. It activated a genetic clock inside Lily’s body. If we don't extract the counter-sequence from Victoria’s main lab within forty-eight days... the cellular harvest will consume Lily’s brain entirely. She’ll become a hollow shell. Just like Harrison."
