CHAPTER 61 — THE DARKNESS OVER BANGKOK

The silence that followed the city-wide blackout was heavier than any thunderclap. Forty floors above the streets of Bangkok, the ambient hum of the metropolis vanished, leaving only the sound of hot wind rattling the glass panes. Far below, the sea of headlights froze as traffic grids gridlocked instantly, their computerized engines fried by the localized electromagnetic pulse bleeding through the satellite phone.

"It's not just the hospital," Alexander said, his voice a low grunt as he ripped the biometric sensors from his chest. The green backlight of his independent pacemaker flickered unsteadily, fighting against a phantom current traveling through the air. "The entire Chao Phraya river basin just dropped offline. Look at the water."

Claire didn't look at the river. Her eyes were pinned to the display of the military phone. The shadow on the screen—the pixelated distortion rippling around Lily’s tiny fingers—was still expanding. It wasn't an image anymore. It was an active transmission of raw data, heavy enough to warp the local electrical field.

"She’s broadcasting from the floating laboratory," Claire whispered, her throat dry. "Victoria isn't sending a message, Alex. She’s using Lily’s cellular structure as a booster tower to run the Monarch Grid through the regional infrastructure. She’s turning the whole city into a battery."

Victoria Lane stepped away from the window, the tactical gear she wore rustling softly in the dark. She clicked a high-lumen military flashlight into life, its harsh white beam cutting through the gloom of the medical suite.

"The Elysium Enclave isn't waiting for us to attack, Claire," Victoria Lane said, her scarred face twisted into a grim mask under the stark light. "They’re expanding their perimeter. If we don't move within twenty minutes, the Thai military will declare martial law, and this entire sector will be locked down by black-ops cleanup crews. I have a pressurized speedboat hidden at the private docks near the French Embassy. We leave now, or we die in the dark."

Anna Carter moved to the bedside table, grabbing the leather box that contained the remaining baby shoes—the red, the blue, the white-gold, and the jade. "We take the keys. If Victoria Whitmore wants the obsidian pair to finalize the code, she needs the calculations from the previous iterations. We don't give her the numbers until we have the girl."

Claire took the box, the weight of the family's multi-generational treason resting heavy in her hands. She looked back at the darkened city, where the slow, rhythmic grinding of mechanical shifting began to echo from the river channels below. The iron cathedral wasn't just in Da Nang anymore; the architecture of the grandfathers was rising everywhere.
