Chapter 13 - The first prior episode

The wedding night became important.

Six weeks before the emergency, Margaret babysat Ella from 4:30 p.m. until 10:15.

Ella slept unusually long afterward.

No hospital.

No test.

No way to prove medication exposure scientifically.

But texts mattered.

At 7:42, Margaret sent Luke:

Out cold. Told you Grandma knows babies.

At 8:06, Luke:

Seriously what’s your secret

Margaret:

Not everything needs to be a federal investigation

At the time, everyone laughed.

Now it read differently.

Could be sleep training.

Could be medicine.

Then Margaret admitted she had administered the OTC sedating product that night.

So one prior exposure became established by her own statement.

She insisted:

“No harm happened.”
