Chapter 21 - My mother-in-law’s apology

Margaret’s first letter came from custody.

I read four lines.

I was trying to help a desperate mother who refused to listen.

I stopped.

Returned it through counsel.

Second letter:

I am sorry Ella had a reaction.

No.

A reaction had not independently wandered into the room.

Third letter came nearly two years after the emergency.

I read it.

Sarah, I gave Ella medicine without asking you.

There.

I did it because I believed I knew better than you.

Good.

The first time she slept longer, I decided that result proved I was right.

There.

When Luke questioned me, I made him feel foolish for worrying.

Yes.

When Ella was hospitalized, I accused you because I could not accept that the thing I had called harmless had caused the emergency.

I stopped.

Cried.

Then continued.

I did not want to hurt Ella. That does not make what I did safe.

Finally.

You did not cause this by being tired. You did not cause it by having a baby who slept badly. You did not cause it by disliking my advice.

I needed that sentence less by then.

Still appreciated it.

I am sorry.

No:

Please forgive me.

No:

Let me see her.

Good.

I replied through my attorney:

May you like

I received your letter. Thank you for describing your actions accurately.

Nothing else.
