Chapter 11 - THE POISON AND THE PRICE

The steady, high-pitched beep of the heart monitor was turning into a continuous whine.
Sarah's skin had turned a ghostlike shade of pale.
Ryan’s mind worked frantically, weighing the life of his wife against his urge to tear Evelyn apart.
"Marcus! Hold her!" Ryan commanded, shoving Evelyn toward the older man.
Marcus grabbed Evelyn by both arms, pinning her against the wall with unyielding strength.
Ryan turned his attention entirely to the medical monitor and the IV tube.
He grabbed a heavy metal surgical tray off the floor.
With a brutal swing, Ryan smashed the metal tray directly into the electronic display of the IV machine.
Sparks showered into the air, and smoke curled up from the shattered screen.
The pump gave a long screech and finally cut out, stopping the flow of the dangerous sedative.
Ryan instantly yanked the IV needle out of Sarah's arm, pressing a piece of sterile gauze firmly onto the wound.
"Sarah! Look at me!" Ryan pleaded, slapping her cheeks gently.
"Stay with me, baby! Breathe!" Ryan shouted.
Sarah let out a long, ragged gasp, her eyes fluttering open slightly as her chest heaved.
"Ryan..." Sarah gasped, her voice barely a whisper.
"I'm here, I've got you," Ryan whispered, kissing her cold forehead.
Behind them, Evelyn began to laugh—a low, terrifying chuckle that echoed in the sealed metal room.
"You think stopping the IV saves her?" Evelyn mocked coldly.
"That drug has a delayed neurotoxin component," Evelyn revealed with a chilling grin.
"Without the counter-agent, her respiratory system will shut down completely in thirty minutes," Evelyn declared.
Ryan spun around, his eyes filled with pure, lethal fire.
"Where is the counter-agent, Evelyn?!" Ryan demanded, stepping toward her like an impending storm.

"It's in my personal safe at the main estate," Evelyn sneered softly.
"And you will never reach it in time," Evelyn added, her smile widening into a terrifying smirk.
