Chapter 20 - A NEW DAWN

Ryan stepped out into the sunlit hospital corridor.

Marcus was leaning against the wall, wearing a clean leather jacket, his old scarred face looking lighter than ever before.

"Heading out?" Ryan asked, walking over to him.

"My work here is done, kid," Marcus replied with a small, quiet smirk.

"Evelyn is going away for the rest of her natural life," Marcus said satisfyingly.

"My daughter can finally rest in peace," Marcus added softly.

Marcus reached into his pocket and pulled out the small silver key he had worn around his neck for years.

He held it out to Ryan.

"What's this for?" Ryan asked, looking at the key in his palm.

"That opens the old workshop near the docks," Marcus explained.

"It's yours now," Marcus offered generously.

"Start over, build something real, and take care of that family of yours," Marcus advised.

Ryan looked at the older man, deep gratitude shining in his eyes.

He extended his hand, and Marcus shook it with a firm, powerful grip.

"Thank you, Marcus," Ryan said earnestly.

"For everything," Ryan added.

"Take care of yourself, Ryan," Marcus said, turning and walking down the quiet hallway toward the exit.

Ryan watched him leave until the elevator doors closed.

Then, Ryan turned back toward Room 408 and pushed the door open.

Inside, Sarah was watching Leo wake up, the young boy rubbing his eyes and giggling as his mother tickled him.

The morning sunlight filled the room with bright, beautiful warmth.

Ryan walked over to the bed, sliding his arm around his wife and wrapping his other arm around his son.

The dark nightmare was finally over.
